Game Developer CV Questions
List your education in reverse chronological order with your most recent degree first. Put the name of the degree and the name and location of the school from which you received it. You may include the year if you graduated fairly recently. If it’s been more than 15 years since you earned your diploma, it’s better to leave the year off.
Do not put your GPA, but it’s fine to mention honors, such as summa cum laude. Add any certification or licensing courses to this section as well. Study our game developer CV sample for an excellent example of how to do this.
Hobbies and interests are the last section of your CV, as illustrated in our game developer CV sample. Make sure yours paint you in a favorable light. “Beer pong champion,” is not the best choice.
If you have hobbies that pertain to your industry, such as attending Comic-Con conventions or volunteering at Cosplay events, these show your interests go beyond the day job. Other activities that are helpful to list are sports, creative or performing arts, and community volunteerism.
If you are applying for your first game developer job, never fear, you can still make your CV stand out from the crowd. Move your education section up so it is right after the professional summary. Emphasize any course work or research you did while in school that shows special talents and training. Include internships and work study programs also.
For your work experience section, create bullet points that showcase any tech or computer skills you used on the job. For example, if you designed or maintained a website for an employer or became proficient in a particular software, mention this in your bulleted lists. Take a look at our game developer CV sample for additional ideas about what you can include here.
Game developers should be creative and think outside the box, so it’s okay to use a CV template with a little pizzazz. Consider options with colors, graphics, logos, and unusual columns or other formatting. Don’t go overboard, however. Your CV still needs to be clear and readable, as shown in our game developer CV sample.
CVs can vary widely in length. If you are a recent college grad or relatively new to the industry, a CV of two pages is adequate, like our game developer CV sample. Developers with 15 years’ experience or more may extend to three to six pages in length. Remember to whittle your information to the essentials by including the most important skills and work experience.
