FAQ

You may want to demonstrate design skills or simply communicate your qualifications in your resume, depending on the extent of your experience and the job you are seeking. See our designers resume samples to get a sense of how you might lay out this document and what information you should consider including.
Start with your full name and contact information. Include a summary statement or objective statement, a list of relevant skills, and a work history section with details about past positions or projects. Close with an education section listing any academic degrees or certifications relevant to UI or UX design.
The best design for a UI or UX resume depends on the job you are seeking. Regardless of whether you decide to take a creative approach, your resume should indicate your ability to organize and communicate information.
A UI or UX designer should not have a disorganized or incomplete resume. All of the major sections should provide prospective employers with information they need to know. Try to align your qualifications with the position you are seeking.
A designer’s resume should have all of the standard sections, as shown in our designers resume samples. Employers need to know about your skills, experience, and education. Designers may describe past projects in ways that vary from jobseekers in other fields.
Some UI and UX designers work for agencies or companies while others operate as freelance consultants. If you have been doing consulting or freelance work, list projects that are most recent or relevant to the next position or project you are seeking. Be sure to have a portfolio ready in case an employer requests to see samples of your work.
You can bring up the most relevant certifications for a position you are seeking in your summary statement or skills list. The education section is also a great place to list certifications in reverse chronological order along with formal academic degrees.
It may be a good idea to include certifications that are lesser known in the education section so that you can provide details about the certifying bodies or institutions as well as the purpose and the date when you attained these credentials. Reference the examples in our designers resume samples.
Two of the best ways to demonstrate your ability to work as part of a UI, UX, or combined team are to mention skills related to teamwork in the skills section of a resume and describe achievements resulting from teamwork in your work experience. If you have worked with others to create deliverables or build sites in the past, try to make this clear. At the same time, look for ways to specify your own contributions to these projects.
